How to restore Windows Explorer Missing Icons.

If you make a big changes to windows' registry like installing Windows skins/themes and uninstalling them later, there's a big chance that it will mess up your Windows icons. If that happens, you can restore them with a simple method. Why would you need to use third party programs if you can do it with the cheapest way possible?

These are the steps you need to do:

1. Right click on your desktop, click properties.

2. New window will appear.

3. Click 'desktop' tab.

4. Click 'customize' button.

5. After you click custumize button, new window will appear again. There's list view area that list all icons for their respective buttons. If you see missing icons there (usually for My Computer) you can click 'Change icon' and replace it with icon you want.

Do note however, these icons are loaded from 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll'. If this file's corrupted, you need to replace it from your Windows installation disc.To prevent this, do not install any third party themes for Windows XP. Oh, you could also use System Restore to restore missing icons, though. But it's more difficult and has tendency to screw your settings.
