Install the following items:
1. Adblock Plus:
- Make sure you subscribe one list. Ads were yesterday then.
2. Fasterfox:
- Improves your browsing speed by saving the web pages silently.
3. Flashblock:
- Similar as Adblock, but this one blocks flash ads/banners. A time lifesaver.
Next, don't install plugins from the source you don't trust. If possible, install from recommended sites (such as mozilla server) only.
Update your Firefox as soon as the new version is released.
Do not lower your security settings.
